Welcome Division 16 Affiliates, to our second year!
When the Division 16 Steering Committee recently discussed possible topics for upcoming newsletters, one common thread ran through the suggestions. The thread was “advocacy.” As Fran Block, our Newsletter Editor and Assistant Coordinator said, “Advocacy is the basis for everything we do as a profession.” Has a day gone by in your career when you haven’t “promoted, championed, encouraged, assisted, supported, cultivated, nurtured, and advanced” a particular cause for your students? Those of us working in the school setting are often quite isolated from other audiolo-gists or speech-language patholo-gists and we find ourselves in the position of “Joan (Joe) of Arc,” in our advocating role during Multidisciplinary Teams and in other situations.
