ASHA has designated 2003 as the “Year of the Volunteer.” No one exemplifies what it means to be a volunteer more than one of our own members: Patricia M. Stephens, CCC/SLP, who passed away at her RI home on January 21 at the age of 52.
Pat was one of the first members and staunch supporters of Division 16. She practiced as a speech-language pathologist for 13 years in the Woonsocket, RI School System, and served 3 years as department head of 15 speech-language pathologists. She was active in the RI Speech-Language-Hearing Association (RISHA) and served on the RISHA Executive Board for 13 years in the capacities of treasurer, CE administrator, newsletter co-editor, corresponding secretary, and member of the Schools Committee.
