Greetings to all and congratulations to our newly elected 2005 Division 16 Steering Committee (SC) members: Ellen Estomin and Lisa Keane!
VALUE, a relative term, comes in many forms. In view of pending increases in dues, value will be a prime personal consideration for all of us when we renew our 2005 ASHA membership and Division 16 affiliation.
Considering value, there are many reasons for checking the Division 16 box on the ASHA dues renewal:
In May, the SC and committee chairs held their annual face-to-face planning meeting. With the assistance of Stan Dublinske and Michelle Ferketic from the ASHA National Office (NO), we reviewed our 3-year strategic plan. I’m happy to report that, though the division came into being only 5 years ago, we have achieved the majority of our original goals. Keeping our mission statement in mind and incorporating your input from the Welcome Letter questionnaire, a new 3-year strategic plan was formulated. In addition to existing successful programs, interesting activities have been included in the new goals. These include a special working group, consisting of affiliates of Divisons 16 and 11 (Administration and Supervision), that will be reviewing existing speech-language pathology performance guidelines and formulating/ compiling new guidelines to be offered free from ASHA. In addition, another committee is being formed with Divisions 16, 13 (Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders), and 3 (Voice and Voice Disorders) to examine speech-language pathology management of medically fragile children in schools.
