Well it is that time again. … HOLIDAYS! I can't help but smile when I see of all the classrooms decorated and children learning about the different cultural celebrations at this time of year. This is when we tend to look back and reflect on what has been accomplished both personally and professionally.
Each year, at this time, the Coordinating Committee updates our Special Interest Group (SIG) work plan. While reviewing the document, I realized that we have accomplished much more than I remembered.
Here is a sampling of this year's accomplishments. We continue to be the second largest SIG with 6,563 members as of October 2015 with membership growth of nearly 500 members. As the second largest SIG, we are constantly looking for ways to collaborate with others on research and school practice issues. For example, this year we continued representation on ASHA's Ad Hoc Committee on Oral Reading Fluency with Children Who Stutter. Additionally, we collaborated on live online chats and Convention and poster sessions with both SIG 1 (Language and Learning) and SIG 4 (Fluency). In September we again partnered with SIG 1, this time to provide a joint review of ASHA's draft proposal on the Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology.
